Thomas Chase has successfully represented clients in employment matters and complex commercial disputes for more than twenty-five years. He advises corporate and individual clients on virtually all aspects of employment law, including employment discrimination, restrictive covenants, wage & hour, employment agreements, compensation, and ERISA. He also represents clients in complex commercial disputes in state and federal court as well as various arbitration forums.
Mr. Chase graduated, with honors, from The University of Wisconsin School of Law, where he served as a Note & Comment Editor of The Wisconsin Law Review.
Upon graduating from law school, Mr. Chase joined the large Wall Street law firm Milbank Tweed Hadley & McCloy as a litigation associate working on sophisticated financial disputes. At Milbank, he worked with and against many talented New York City litigators on large, cutting-edge, corporate matters. This early experience provided Mr. Chase with outstanding training that has benefitted him throughout his career.
In 2001, Mr. Chase joined the Midtown Manhattan law firm Rottenberg Lipman Rich, where he practiced with several of his former Milbank colleagues for the majority of his career.
Mr. Chase became a Partner at RLR in 2004 and focused his practice on employment law and business litigation. While at RLR, Mr. Chase represented individual and corporate clients in complex matters in state and federal courts in New York and New Jersey, as well as in numerous arbitration forums such as the American Arbitration Association, JAMS, and FINRA.
Mr. Chase obtained significant trial experience at RLR, serving as lead trial counsel for plaintiffs and defendants in numerous jury trials, bench trials, and arbitration hearings that proceeded to judgment. He greatly enjoys the challenge of presenting complex cases at trial in a manner that a judge, jury, or arbitrator will find clear, concise, and compelling.
Rethinking and Redefining a Solo Practice
In 2020, Mr. Chase decided to leave RLR to start Thomas Chase LLC. After 25 years of practicing with larger firms, he was excited to develop a practice focusing exclusively on his areas of expertise and representing select clients.
Recent changes to the practice of law permit solo practitioners like Mr. Chase to handle matters that used to require a larger firm. New technologies for capturing and searching electronic information, for example, now automate discovery processes that used to require multiple attorneys or legal assistants. Legal staffing firms also now economically provide temporary support for more significant cases requiring a larger staff. It has never been easier, therefore, for a solo practitioner to handle large and complex matters.
